Pavoa

When we moved to a house in rural Goa we expected to be living amongst a variety of wild animals and birds. In the months ahead, we grew used to snakes in the garden, Leaf birds on the cherry tree and the monitor lizard that sunned himself on the well. What we never grew tired of were the majestic peacocks that sat on our wall draping its tail over calling out to to its mate.

The romance of this bird inspired us to reimagine it using an ancient technique of wood carving from South India.  Hand carved on vaaghai wood,  the piece is then hand painted using a traditional technique of painting, where each layer is added one at a time and sun-dried between stages.
