Sabai Grass and date palm is commonly found in East India, where local communities have used both for centuries to make baskets, fences, mats and more. Today, we work with rural communities in Orissa to make these wonderful Date/Sabai mats for the table. Made by coiling Sabai grass and then wrapping it in dyed date palm, these handmade mats show us how rural communities are today working with old traditions but with contemporary ideas.
